DOUGLAS DOUBLES WITH TWO PODIUMS
AT CHARLOTTE TORC OPENER
After big changes to the AMSOIL number 7 Douglas
Motorsports Ford in the off-season, Scott Douglas was confident the
truck would be faster when the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL went
green flag racing. “We did a lot of testing at Cycle Ranch in Texas
and at Crandon with the new setup and knew we had a winning
combination,” commented Douglas. “Our only question was how well we
could do on the shorter speedway style tracks.” That question was
answered when Scott Douglas earned spots on the podium in both round
one and round two of TROC Series action at the Charlotte Motor
Speedway.

Douglas Motorsports made modifications to the
chassis, and moved coolers and other components lower in the truck
to improve handling.
The major changes, however, were the addition of a Goodwin
Competition Racing Engine with a Borla Performance Exhaust system
and a manual transmission. “The truck is dramatically different to
drive than it was last season. This engine builds power so quickly,
that I found myself short shifting at certain points on the track to
keep it hooked up. I think we’ll really see an improvement
when we get to the natural terrain high-speed tracks like Bark River
and Crandon.”
In round one Friday night under the lights, Douglas jumped out to an
early lead and held off the field for the first five laps. Dicing in
traffic, Ricky Johnson slipped by. Between the slick clay surface
and very busy track, the learning curve with the manual transmission
was steep. Scott was able to hold second place all the way to the
checkered flag, posting consistently fast lap times.
The Douglas Motorsports crew made a few changes to the setup for
Saturday’s round two Pro 4 race. With the starting grid inversion
determined by points, Douglas and Johnson started back a row and
would need to pass their way to the lead. On the first lap, the
number 7 AMSOIL Ford took serious roost from the trucks in front
that included a huge rock. “I could tell the power was off and
shifting was really hard, but from the driver’s seat I couldn’t see
any physical damage,” stated Douglas. After the race, the problem
was obvious – that big rock tore right through the engine air intake
screen and sheetmetal, bending the metal air cleaner housing down
onto the throttle linkage. Still, Douglas was able muscle the
throttle and shifter to finish on the podium in third. Scott Douglas
is currently second in TORC Series Pro 4 points.
